Top 4 Questions About Ordering Lenses on our myIcarelabs Portal
One of the key advantages of partnering with IcareLabs is our intuitive online portal, which provides easy access to a variety of essential features. These include tracking job statuses, creating shipping labels, reviewing statements, paying bills, viewing up-to-date pricing, and most importantly, online ordering. To ensure a seamless experience, we've compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our online ordering system.
1. How Do I Order KBCO Pre-Coated Mirror Lenses?
Ordering KBCO pre-coated mirror lenses offers a consistent and streamlined process, but it's important to understand the details to ensure the right outcome. Since mirror coatings can present a wide array of possibilities, KBCO lenses are designed to provide consistency and ease of ordering.
When placing an order, simply navigate to the "Material" dropdown menu, where all available KBCO pre-coated mirror lenses will be listed by material type, polarized color, and mirror color (see image). Please note that customization of the base color is not available for KBCO lenses, as the coating is preset to maintain consistent coloring.
Once you’ve selected your preferred color combination, you can choose the appropriate lens type. Our system will automatically filter out any lens types that are incompatible with your selected material, so if you don't see a particular option, it’s unavailable.

2. How Do I Order Lenses Only (Without Sending in the Frame)?
One of the benefits of using our myIcareLabs portal is that we retain all previous frame tracings on file for your convenience. This means that if you have a doctor’s remake or are processing a coating warranty, you can continue using the patient’s existing frame while we create the new lenses.
To place an order for lenses only, simply select the "Job Type" as "Finish (Edge From Memory)" and input the patient’s previous Job ID number into the "Edge from Job ID" field. This ensures that we have all the necessary details to replicate the original frame and lens configuration.
3. How Do I Ensure Accurate Cut-Outs for My UNCUT Lenses?
When ordering uncut lenses, it's important to consider the variability in frame manufacturers' measurements. To achieve the best possible cut, IcareLabs uses a comprehensive frame database with sizes for thousands of frames already stored. By including the frame details—such as frame information, size, and shape—during the ordering process, we can ensure the lenses are properly sized to fit the frame.

4. How Do I Optimize Lens Thickness for My Order?
In plus prescriptions, optimizing lens thickness for enhanced cosmetic appearance is contingent upon three essential factors: Proper Frame Fit, Base Curve, and Accurate Frame Measurements (for uncut orders). While the choice of material significantly influences the outcome, selecting the smallest feasible frame for the patient is crucial. Reducing decentration and employing the flattest possible base curve will yield a thinner, more aesthetically pleasing pair of glasses.
In minus prescriptions, Proper Frame Fit is paramount. It is advisable to utilize flat, non-wrap frames for higher minus Rx jobs. If a "wrap" style frame is necessary, opt for a base curve that is 2 diopters flatter than the actual frame curve. This approach will prevent the base side from becoming excessively steep, resulting in a thinner lens and ensuring a proper fit within the frame.
To ensure the best results, be sure to provide accurate prescription details, frame measurements, and base curve specifications when placing an order through our myIcareLabs portal. This will help minimize any potential cut-out issues and ensure a smoother, more efficient process.
For more detailed guidance on selecting the correct base curve, refer to our in-depth blog post on the topic which includes a simple formula you can use to ensure correct base curve on every job you do. While entering the base curve isn’t strictly required, selecting the correct one from the outset can greatly improve the efficiency and accuracy of your orders.
